Directors' previous music videos*

Alex Southam

Alex Southam was the director of the Chase and Status video 'Lost and Not Found'. He also directed Laura Mvula's video 'She' and Alt-J's video ' Tessellate'. He has also has created videos for  Lianne Le HavasJamie N CommonsThe Walkmen and Mika

'Chase and Status - Lost and Not Found'
In this video he used a roving camera POV to give the effect that someone is wandering about at random over a fairly large area and everyone is connected in some way. It gives the effect that the video is shot in one single shot. Throughout the whole video there are people in some quite painful positions, the man in the bathtub crying and the man getting high and at the end at the guy getting arrested and the girl getting him out of the situation, all of these situations could represent some sort of heartache that the people are going through. The lyrics in the chorus are "I’m never gonna let you go. I’m never gonna let you down. The heart has taken control. There’s no one around" these lyrics seem to mean the uncontrollable love that you can have for somebody and these lyrics are the ones that seem to be represented throughout the video. The whole video is set in slow motion and comes back to the same boy that is at the beginning.

'Laura Mvula - She'
Alex also directed Laura Mvula's video 'She' which has almost the same sort of effect in the video of a roving camera POV. The storyline of the video is almost the same as the chase and status one as it is filmed from the perspective of a girl watching life around her. This video like the lost and not found on both are set in the past, and both have the effect of time moving onwards and at the end they both come back to the same point at the end. In the Laura Mvula video its the exact same shot of the girl at the beginning and in the chase and status video its the same boy on his bike. The difference between the videos is that the Laura Mvula video switches to a bit of a performance based video with Laura singing whereas the Chase and Status video is completely narrative based.

Daniel Wolfe
Daniel Wolfe directed the Chase and Status video 'Blind Faith'. He also directed Plan B's video 'Prayin' as well as many other short films and television advertisements for brands such as 'San Miguel'.

'Chase and Status - Blind Faith'
This video is set in the early 1990's and is about the illegal warehouse raves that used to go on. The video had a kind of vintage feel it to give it the effect that it was actually set in the 1990's. The track lyrics are about the release that you can get from drug use and the video represents that by showing drug use. It is quite an open video as you can either condone with drug use of not, its a video that lets you have an open opinion which is what the song lyrics are like. The video is narrative based but it ends up quite performance based as they are all in the warehouse and the lights and the people dancing all match to the beat of the song and Liam Bailey the singer of the song is performing to the crowd of people and Chase and status are seen on the dj set.

'Plan B - Prayin'
The video for Plan B is a different to the Chase and status video as it is quite a sad video throughout and based on things that are quite deep whereas the Chase and Status video is fun. It still has the same idea of people commiting crime in the video as the whole video is set in a prison and the actors are all playing prisoners. In the video the prisoners randomly start dancing during a work out session and some of the prisons wives/girlfriends start dancing aswell during their meeting session. Then when the police officers turn off the football match, the prisons rebel with dance. The whole thing is made to looks as if the prisoners are rioting against the police using their dancing as a weapon. This Is similar to the Chase and Status video in that the people are going to illegal raves to dance, so in both video dance is used to fight back at the law. A difference with this video is that Plan B is used as the main character in the video and lip-sinks a lot in the song whereas in the Blind Faith video Chase and Status are more just extras in the video and don't have much of a part.
