Consideration of artists and tracks*

Disclosure

Disclosure are an English electronic music duo consisting of brothers Guy and Howard. Their songs are quite upbeat but yet quite mellow. Most of their songs have a meaning behind them, usually some sort of love story in which they follow up in their videos for example both videos ‘Latch’ and ‘You and Me’ are both narrative based videos and tell stories between two couples. Disclosure seem to use mostly narrative based videos so they would be a good band to pick if we decides we wanted to do a narrative based performance for our video.

• F for You - This song has got quite a funky beat, its got a deep base and a hi-hat sound. It is the kind of music you would dance to in a club. For this reason I think it would be a good video to do a performance based video to as the music makes you want to dance so it would be good to see people dancing in the video or have some sort of flashing lights in the video so it would be like your own point of view of yourself dancing in a club or watching the band perform.

The idea about being 'infected' could be seen as like infected by dance and you don't know really what you are just doing, you just do it. 'I played the fool for you' could be seen as being in some like puppet like dance.

• Latch - this song has got quite a strong base throughout the song and a few high notes, but its a really mellow and relaxed song. Its not really the type of song that you would dance to, more what you would listen to whilst chilling out. This song would fit more a narrative based video.

The lyrics for this song are all about love and the feelings that you experience, therefore a love story for the video would be very fitting.

• White Noise - - this song is quite upbeat with a strong base throughout and hi-hat sounds. It is the kind of song that you could dance to and the lyrics have a story in them so therefore I think this would be a good song to do both a narrative and performance based video.

Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea is an Australian recording artist and model. Her style of music is Hip Hop/Electronic Dance so her songs are quite upbeat. Her music videos are usually a mix of both narrative and performance based, and there is often controversy about her music videos as they can often be fairly explicit. Iggy’s videos usually involve her dancing and singing. Iggy would be a good artist to use if we wanted to do a performance based video.

• Change your life - this song is very upbeat with a deep base throughout. The lyrics are about coming from a life of being poor to becoming very rich so it is quite a flashy song so a performance based video would suit it well as it is a chance for the artists to show off. The lyrics have a story line aswell so narrative in the video also suits it.

• Work - This song is very upbeat and the kind of song that you could dance to. The lyrics are about Iggy's life so a narrative based performance

Chase and Status

Chase & Status are a British Electronic music production duo composed of Saul Milton (Chase) and Will Kennard (Status). The band’s music is quite upbeat but where they collaborate with different artists their music changes so some songs are quite mellow and some are more hip hop. They still stick to the same sort of style but the slight change in their genre means that their videos are all quite different from each other. The majority of their videos are narrative based and sometimes they add in a bit of performance. I think this would be a really good band to do as their videos are all really varied and you could use create a narrative/performance based video.

Considered Tracks for Chase and Status

International - this is a very dancey and upbeat song. It is a very fast song and the singer of the song has a bit of a weird voice and it is more talking rather than singing. the lyrics are unclear and dont really make sense so you could interpret the song in different ways. A performance based video would suit this song the most.

No Problem - this is a very upbeat song and it sounds very African. The song has a bit of a jungle drum beat and the singer has an african accent. The song alternates from mellow to fast paced. The song doesn't have a story line in the lyrics so a performance based video would suit it most.

Eastern Jam - this is quite a mellow yet upbeat song with a strong bass throughout. It is a Bollywood song that has been remixed and made to sound very modern and dancey. This song would suit a performance based video the best as it doesn't have any clear lyrics and is the type of music that you could dance to.
